My Grandmother Helen Diebold's Maternal Ancestors

John Smith Lilley was born August 11, 1822 in Chester County, PA. He was the son of Margaret Vaughan Smith (born May 16, 1803 and was the daughter of Robert Smith and Esther Kennedy of Chester County, PA) and possibly Warren Lilley. It is thought that John's father died when John was very young. He was raised by his mother's relatives, Rev. and Mrs. Grier of the Old Manse Church at Brandywine Manor, Chester County, Pennsylvania until he was 17 years old. He was a millwright on the Brandywine before moving to Clermont County, Ohio. John Smith Lilley married Amelia Jane Glenn on July 20,1848, at Monterey, Clermont County, Ohio. Amelia Jane Glenn's parents were Alexander Glenn, (born 1792 in Chester County, PA), and Martha Barr, (born February 11, 1797, Washington County, PA). Martha's parents were John Barr and Mary Patchel from Ireland. Alexander Glenn married Martha Barr July 2, 1816 in Williamsburg, Clermont County, Ohio. Alexander Glenn was a chairmaker. The Alexander Glenn and John Smith Lilley families both moved to Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio in the mid 1850's. Alexander Glenn, Martha Barr Glenn, John Smith Lilley and Amelia Jane Glenn Lilley are buried in Grove Cemetery, Kenton, OH.

Looker Ancestors
Laurence Frank Looker was my great-great grandfather. He married Margaret Lilley, daughter of John Smith Lilley and Amelia Jane (Glenn) Lilley. Frank Looker was born October 17, 1852 in Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio. His parents were John Looker (b August 28, 1808, in Virginia) and Edith Matthews (b October 30, 1809, in Virginia).
April 06, 1829 is the date shown on the marriage bond for John Looker and Edith 'Edy' Matthews, who were married in Rockingham County, Virginia. John and Edy Looker settled in Hardin County, Ohio, in 1839. John Looker died in Hardin County, Ohio on January 18, 1854. Edy Matthews Looker died in Hardin County, Ohio on February 27, 1866.
The history of my Looker ancestors family may go back to the early 1500's in Bures, St. Mary, Suffolk, England. There is a family home page by the Bock-Hughes Family that has information for Thomas 'The Quaker' Looker (Loker) born 1705 in Elizabethtown, Essex/Union Co., NJ, and died in Rockingham County, Virginia. The Bock-Hughes Family page shows the ancestors of Thomas 'The Quaker' Looker and then goes on to show the descendants of Thomas 'The Quaker' Looker's son James Looker. My family are the descendants of Thomas 'The Quaker' Looker's son John Looker. Thomas 'The Quaker' Looker also had a daughter Grace.
